  2. Dan Young is one of five attorneys shortlisted for Patent Strategy Attorney of the Year – DC Metro.

Heather counsels biotechnology and other life sciences clients on patent portfolio management and strategic development. With a PhD in genetics and just over 15 years of experience in the patent profession, Heather provides clients in the life sciences space with a unique and valuable perspective on intellectual property matters that lie at the intersection of technology and law. She works with clients ranging from start-ups and small- to mid-sized companies to research institutions at all stages of the business lifecycle. Heather strives to cultivate a true partnership with each client and serve as an extension of their team. She leverages her combined business acumen, technical understanding, and legal knowledge to help clients develop and execute on intellectual property strategies that align with their company’s broader goals.

Dan helps life sciences companies, research institutions, and investors build and protect high-value patent portfolios. His practice focuses on patent prosecution, IP due diligence, and portfolio strategy—particularly for biologics and advanced modalities such as cell and RNA therapies, antibodies, ADCs, and gene therapies. Dan advises clients on patent strategy in the context of financings, partnerships, and M&A, and works to align patent and regulatory exclusivity around clinical assets and commercial programs. He also helps teams manage complex portfolios efficiently by triaging inventions and tailoring patenting efforts to evolving business priorities. In addition, Dan supports companies in identifying and managing third-party IP risks, including freedom-to-operate analyses, opinions, licensing, post-grant proceedings, and pre-litigation strategy.

The LMG Life Sciences Awards highlight the firms, individuals, and companies behind the most innovative and challenging life sciences legal work of the past year. Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on September 4, 2025, in New York City.
