Dan Young Recognized Nationally in WIPR USA Patents 2025 Rankings
Dan Young, a shareholder in Wolf Greenfield’s Biotechnology Practice, has been nationally recognized for his non-contentious work in the World IP Review (WIPR) USA Patents 2025 rankings.
Dan provides strategic intellectual property counsel to life sciences companies, research institutions, and investors, and is recognized for developing creative solutions to complex patent issues. He partners with clients to develop and maintain patent portfolios covering biologics and small molecules, and to align patent and regulatory strategies to establish strong exclusivity positions around clinical programs.
With extensive experience conducting due diligence analyses, implementing worldwide third-party patent risk management strategies, and addressing IP issues in transactional matters, Dan advises companies on patent strategy in relation to private placements, public offerings, debt financings, and mergers and acquisitions.
Dan advises company leadership and in-house counsel on strategic intellectual property decisions, helping them communicate effectively with stakeholders, boards, and science teams. He also counsels businesses on patent portfolio strategy and budgeting, including invention triage, aligning IP efforts with evolving R&D priorities, managing foreign filings, and conducting audits to identify gaps and support both near- and long-term business goals.
Prior to becoming an attorney, Dan built an accomplished scientific and engineering career that uniquely positions him to advise innovative clients. He earned a PhD in Biomedical Science and completed a Novartis Presidential Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Novartis and Harvard Medical School, where he worked on advanced genomic screening and drug discovery technologies. A former mechanical engineer and US Merchant Marine engineering officer, Dan is also co-inventor on a US patent relating to a bioinformatics innovation, and has authored more than 35 scientific publications, including in Nature and Nature Chemical Biology. His deep scientific and industry experience enables him to quickly grasp complex technologies and provide practical, strategically grounded intellectual property guidance to clients.
