Overview
Dan Rudoy focuses his practice on IP counseling, patent portfolio development, and patent prosecution for clients developing technology in a wide variety of areas including artificial intelligence, bioinformatics, electronics, genomics, machine learning, medical devices, and software. Dan has particular experience working with clients developing technology at the intersection of life sciences and electrical and computer technology, for example, the application of machine learning to the analysis of genomic data.
Dan works regularly with start-ups, mid-size and multinational companies, non-profit organizations, and investors, advising them on all aspects of IP strategy and portfolio development both in the United States and abroad. Dan works with clients on many IP issues beyond patent prosecution including due diligence, trade secrets, licensing, freedom to operate, and litigation.
Dan is a member of Wolf Greenfield’s Executive Committee. In addition, he plays an active role in the training and development of technology specialists, patent agents, and attorneys. He leads the training program in the Electrical & Computer Technologies Practice and oversees firm-wide junior trainings. Dan is also involved in creating and overseeing the firm-wide leadership development program for senior attorneys.

Experience
- Worked with numerous clients to strategically develop patent portfolios, both domestically and internationally in high tech and life sciences, with particular experience in patent portfolio development for companies operating at the intersection of life sciences and software, and developing bioinformatics, digital health, and machine learning technologies.
- Oversaw development of a substantial patent portfolio for a medical device company resulting in over 100 patents and hundreds of pending patent applications.
- Successfully and repeatedly defended diligence by multiple investors on behalf of numerous clients as part of investment rounds ranging in size from tens of millions to over 100 million.
- Regularly assist clients prepare and successfully prosecute patent applications in areas facing complex patent eligibility (“Alice”) issues.
- Help clients develop in-house patent harvesting programs.

Dan is named to World IP Review’s 2025 WIPR Leaders List. He has been repeatedly recognized on the Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch list by The Best Lawyers in America®. Dan has also been repeatedly named to the list of Massachusetts Rising Stars by Super Lawyers. In addition, he is named a Thomson Reuters Stand-out Lawyer.
Dan was the recipient of the US National Science Foundation and National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowships, and the Atwater Kent prize for distinction in his master’s thesis research. He was also awarded a distinction in teaching for his contributions to engineering statistics at Harvard University and a Penn-Merck scholarship for teaching in inner city Philadelphia schools. He is a member of Eta Kappa Nu and Tau Beta Pi.
